Winter at Belle Grove

26/01/13 1:36 AM

Today we had our first real snow in Chesapeake, getting about 2 inches. As you can see Hurley had a blast in it.

We heard from the caretakers at Belle Grove, they too have gotten a good bit of snow. How we wish we could be there to see it!

Next year for sure!

The caretaker will be taking some pictures for us and we will be traveling there on Sunday while we attend the Bridal Show in Manassas. But until then, they shared with us some pictures from 2009 of Belle Grove and a wonderful snow fall they had that year.

Looks like Hurley was having a lot of fun. I hope you are able to get some snow pictures. If not this year, you will have many chances in the future.

  6. Yes, he had a great time. I hope so too. If not, we will next year.

  12. Thank you! I bet it is so peaceful with the snow all around!

  13. Oh, it looks just glorious in winter. Time to make those millions so I can come visiting. I’d be right there with Hurley, playing in the snow 🙂

  14. Thank you! We can’t wait to see you! Hurley says he is waiting! 🙂

  15. Marc Kuhn Says:

I live in Florida which makes pictures like these the best way to “like” snow. I bet some nice snowy shots of the house will make great Christmas Cards…Norman Rockwell would want one! I enjoy keeping up with your progress on the whole project.

  16. Thank you Marc! I like seeing snow this way too! I’m not much for the cold, but just love the beauty of it. I agree, maybe next year we will have some of the pictures from this year gracing our first Christmas card from Belle Grove. Great idea! Thank you!

  17. Beth Says:

Stunning. . . ethereal. Seeing Harley makes me long for another pup.

  18. Thank you! Hurley says you can come play with him at the plantation. He won’t mind! 😉

  19. Beth Says:

I meant Hurley! It’s just that I have a friend with a guide dog named Harley who looks just like Hurley! 🙂

  20. No worries! He would come no matter what you call him 😉

  21. John Says:

Such a grand and stately looking home, great photos!

  22. Thank you John! We can’t wait to see it tomorrow! More pictures to come for sure!

  23. Jane Sadek Says:

Hard for me to think about snow. My irises have already started blooming!

  24. I know! We had blooms coming up at Belle Grove and I was thinking that they aren’t going to last in this.

  25. Lisa Says:

Perfect post card pics or Christmas Cards!! I love your dog!! My dog loves the snow too!!

  26. Thank you! We may use a picture from this year as a Christmas Card for December!

  27. terry1954 Says:

even in the depth of snow the house stands out in beauty

  28. Thank you! It does does it?

  29. Gorgeous in any season! How far are you from Belle Grove? One more question. How many guests rooms will you have?

  30. I totally agree! We live 2.5 hours from the plantation at this time. We have driven it so much that it doesn’t even seem that long any more. We have four Suites. They are larger than an average room. Upstairs we have to Master Suites and downstairs we have to Junior Suites.

  31. belocchio Says:

Belle Grove looks pristine and serene surrounded by the snow. Beautiful Belle Grove.

  32. Thank you! I bet you just look snow being from BC!

  33. I’m a spring/fall kinda girl, myself… but I love snow as well. Provided I am inside, next to a warm fire, a glass of red wine in my hand, gazing out at the sparkling white snow… 🙂

  34. Me too!! Brett is the snow lover here. I don’t really like the cold. Come to the plantation in the winter and you and I can relax be the fire while everyone else playing in the cold! I’ll bring the wine!

  35. Love that plan!! Count me in!

  36. 😉

  37. sarahlouisek Says:

A snow-covered B&B…beautiful! And Hurley is so sweet with that white nose.
I was wondering, your B&B looks so big, but I think I read on your comments at some point that you will just have four rooms we (the public) can book overnight. Is that correct? Are they suites? Will your family live inside the B&B?

  38. Thank you! We love the snow pics too. We can’t wait to see it in person tomorrow. Hurley says thank you too!

We have four rooms that will be open to rent. Two Master Suites upstairs and two Junior Suites downstairs. They all larger than average rooms you would find at a B&B. The house as a total is 8,000 sq feet.

Yes, Brett and I will have a room just off of the kitchen. Our kids will remain in Chesapeake to attend college.

  39. I can just see Belle Grove decked out for Christmas now. Lovely.

  40. For some reason snow seems to call that to mind for everyone. 🙂 Thank you!

  41. Hurley looks so handsome laying in the snow!

  42. Thank you! He says thank you too!

  43. pommepal Says:

I can just visualize the roaring log fires and being all warm and cosy inside

  44. I don’t know about roaring logs, but we do have some of the fireplaces set up with gas logs 😉 We have to be really careful that we don’t burn down this historic house so we decided not to us real wood that could jump out of the fireplace. But it still would be a cozy thought! Thank you!

  45. pommepal Says:

Oh yes I agree you would have to be so careful

  46. That is some property. Great to stay in a house with a history. I stay in an old church which one of my ancestors might have designed and built. Still trying to research that.

  47. Thank you! I bet that is so much fun! I would love to do research on an old church!

  48. All your pictures are beautiful but the ones with Hurley are the best

  49. Thank you! Hurley is one of our favorites to take pictures of.
