Friday Night in Petersburg

09/08/12 10:33 PM

What a week! Since we haven’t opened yet, Brett and I have continued to work our current jobs. This week has reminded me how much I want to get this bed and breakfast started! I don’t hate my job, but I can’t wait to be able to work for ourselves and the fruits of our labor to be ours, not a corporation. But the weekend is almost here!

Petersburg, Virginia

Since my trip last weekend was so successful and I met some really great people, Brett and I decided to head back to Petersburg for a more in-depth look around. I had had an invitation from the antique dealer, Robert to come back and see more of his antiques that he didn’t have at his booth last weekend. His mother is his “picker” and he will be traveling to see her soon too! I can’t wait to see what he has and will be getting!

Robert

I had scheduled for us to go to one of the bed and breakfast in Old Towne Petersburg, but we got a call today that they had a death in the family and would have to travel on Saturday morning. So instead of having them scrabbling trying to take care of us, I asked if we could cancel and do it another time. I am sorry to hear of their loss and they are in our thoughts and prayers.

So this afternoon, I did some scrambling of my own. I contacted a few other bed and breakfasts and scored a room at one of the best places in Petersburg on short notice! Robert had spoken to me about it so I was excited to get a chance to stay. This place is called La Ville Romaine Bed and Breakfast. It is a beautiful 1853 Italianate style historic home that is a decorated with French antiques from Europe. We can’t wait to go!

Petersburg, Virginia

We also found out that on the second Friday of each month, Old Towne Petersburg host a “Friday for the Arts”. Stores and restaurant stay open longer and visitors are treated to Arts of every kind. This will be our first “Friday for the Arts” so we are looking forward to seeing what it holds. We are also meeting up with Robert at the Oaks Antique Mall on Friday evening to set up a time for us to meet on Saturday. One other place I want to try and stop in is a tea room called “The Blue Willow”. Maybe we will have to do an afternoon tea for an early lunch on Saturday!

Whatever this weekend has in store for us, one thing is for sure… we are going to have lots to post on Saturday or Sunday!

One More Note!

I have been working on my next history post for Belle Grove. This post will cover the Civil War and Belle Grove.

It has been really exciting to put a face on the Civil War as we look at the Turner family and their struggles to survive.

I will have some really exciting things that I will reveal in this post!

  7. I recently day-tripped down to Petersburg (from Reston) to visit the Women’s Museum at Ft Lee. I’ve been trying to run down information about my mother who served in the WAC in WWII. The whole day was spent in the museum. I didn’t get to see any of the town and hadn’t given it much thought until I caught this post. Now I’m thinking I need to go back for a second look sometime soon. Something to do while we await the grand opening at BG.

  8. I would highly recommend a trip to Petersburg! You can’t throw a rock without hitting a historic house! It was grand! There is so much to see, we are going to have to make more trips. We didn’t see everything!
