Gardening Gays Farm is a family farm on 27 acres 2 miles north of the Rappahannock River. We sell eggs year-round and grow seasonal produce in our Market Garden, including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, squashes, pumpkins, and green beans, as well as watermelon and cantaloupe. We design fresh-cut floral arrangements from our summer flower garden, which is filled with sunflowers, zinnias, gladiolus, dahlias, long-stem marigolds, eucalyptus, and a variety of other fillers and spillers. We specialize in pasture-raised chicken from May through November and offer educational classes and farm tours to see our gardens and livestock, which include chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys, and bunnies.

Powhatan Posies

Farm Offerings:
Visitors to Powhatan Posies will have the opportunity to pick their own seasonal flowers and create a unique and personalized floral bouquet. Some examples of cut flowers available include dahlias, sunflowers, zinnia, cosmos and assorted greenery. Additionally there will be pre-made floral arrangements for sale. The flower farmers will be on site to give provide farm tours and answer plant questions. Special workshops for children will be offered for the budding gardener. Families, friends, couples, photographers and all who love the beauty of flowers are invited to the farm!

Bleak Hill Farm

Looking out over the lush Rappahannock River Valley, the property is truly anything but bleak. The 60-acre farm entices visitors with equestrian amenities and a picturesque garden pavilion. Addition to the farm is the Lazy Fox Cottage which went through an amazing transformation. Formerly a garage, the space has been repurposed into a charming B&B with two bedrooms, a spiral staircase and a fully appointed kitchen.

Farm Offerings
They are a 501(c) (3) Non-profit Organization specializing in recreational therapy for military members that have sustained injuries in the service of this country. They offer military members and their families a respite from everyday life to build family relationships through activities such as animal therapy, kayaking, fishing, hunting, shooting, archery, 4-wheeling, or just simply relaxing around a campfire.

Dahlgren Heritage Museum and Visitors Center
The museum, which opened in October 2013, aims to preserve the story of Dahlgren through exhibits and special programs. The center functions as both a tourism support site and living museum with a robust array of programs that help tell the story of the Navy base at Dahlgren.

King George Farmers’ Market
The King George Farmers’ Market features fresh produce, meat, fish, baked goods, plants, crafts, and other items from Virginia’s Northern Neck and surrounding areas. It takes place from 8 AM – 12 PM every Saturday from the last weekend in April through the end of October at the King George Middle School on Kings Highway. On the first Saturday of every month, the market hosts a Community Day where outside groups can also set up at the market. Machodoc Creek Marina
Full service, family oriented marina on Machodoc Creek. Located just one mile off the Potomac River in King George County VA, just south of the 301/Harry Nice Bridge. Marina includes 64 slips, 8 of which are covered. Non-Ethanol fuel available
Wilmont Boat Landing
Visitors can launch canoes and kayaks in order to enjoy the splendors of the river. Bald eagle, osprey, herons, and terns are abundant and easily visible to wildlife enthusiasts. Free access
King George County Museum
The King George County Museum is located in the King George Courthouse complex, in the old jail. Artifacts range from prehistoric to the present. A research library is a popular feature.
Ralph Bunche School
Ralph Bunche High School was a school constructed in 1949 as a result of Civil Action 631 to provide “separate but equal” education for African-American students in King George County, Virginia. The school operated until 1968 when King George High School was completed and the county’s schools integrated.

Mount Bethel Christian Center
An Organization of Baptist churches from DC, MD, & VA that owns the Mt. Bethel Christian Center—one of the largest African American-owned waterfront properties on the east coast located in King George, Virginia.
Barnsfield Park
Park consists of three softball fields, little league field, concession stand, basketball courts, picnic pavilions, soccer fields, hiking area, nature trails, playground, horseshoe pits.
Cedell Brooks Jr. Park
Originally the King George County landfill, this site was transformed into a place for county residents to enjoy sports and other recreational activities. Formerly called Shiloh Park, it was renamed Cedell Brooks, Jr. Park in October 2017 in honor of a longstanding county supervisor.
Caledon State Park
A National Natural Landmark known for its old growth forest and summer home to many American bald eagles, Caledon attracts bird watchers of all ages. Trails, including Boyd’s Hole Trail, which leads to the Potomac River, are open year-round. A visitor center with bald eagle exhibits, four picnic areas, a picnic shelter and restrooms also are available.
Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail
The DRHT is a 15.7-mile (25.3 km) trail from the western edge of King George County to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division. Intended for use as a public “Rails-to-Trails” project, the trail winds through rural King George and accommodates non-motorized, recreational users including hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and runners.

George Washington’s Birthplace
George Washington Birthplace National Monument is located in the Northern Neck of Virginia. It encompasses 551 acres of land where seven generations of the Washington family lived and where George Washington was born in 1732. The park was also central to one of the earliest efforts to memorialize George Washington during the celebration of his bicentennial birth anniversary in 1932.

James Monroe Birthplace Park and Museum
The James Monroe Birthplace Park & Museum is a +70-year project of the James Monroe Memorial Foundation, which was established by the descendants of President James Monroe. Through the charitable contributions and generous donations of everyday people both here and abroad, we are now beginning to see the culmination of this project with the establishment of the Visitors Center and the completion of the Birthplace Home with the park’s various activity trails. On behalf of the Foundation, I wish to thank every person who, of their own accord, continues to perpetuate the legacy of this great man, James Monroe.

Stratford Hall
Come to Stratford Hall. historic home of the Lee Family, for a multi-sensory, immersive experience of Virginia’s history. Nestled along the Potomac River, Stratford Hall’s nearly 2,000 acres comes to life through the presentation and preservation of the 18th-century Great House, vibrant gardens, nature trails, revealing breath-taking river views and stories of all who lived here.

Westmoreland County Museum
Westmoreland County, Virginia is ancestral home of three of our nations first five presidents – George Washington, James Monroe and James Madison. The only two brothers to sign the Declaration of Independence- Richard Henry and Francis Lightfoot Lee were also Westmoreland County residents. The County is also the location of Nomini Hall, where Robert Carter III voluntarily freed nearly 500 of his enslaved people, beginning in 1791. This manumission is the largest known release of the enslaved in North America prior to the American Civil War.
Founded in 1939, the Westmoreland County Museum, Inc. preserves and advances the history of our special place in the Northern Neck. Stop by the original museum to view the Charles Willson Peale painting of William Pitt (Lord Chatham) from 1768, as well as furniture donated by the Washington family.
The Historic Courthouse features rotating exhibits on local history and includes the Henry Hungerford Library and Genealogical Research Center. Make sure to stop in the Wakefield Building on Saturdays to shop at our Mercantile and make yourself a float at the Soda Shoppe.

Westmoreland State Park
On the Potomac River’s Northern Neck, this park offers many opportunities for family fun. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has a bathhouse, meeting area, snack bar, camp store and power-boat ramp. You’ll also find a visitor center, campgrounds, camping cabins, cabins, a playground, a fishing pier, boat rentals and 6 miles of trails. Fossil collectors enjoy hunting for ancient shark teeth along the Potomac. Offshore breakwaters are great for fishing. Birding enthusiasts find the park an excellent site for spotting American bald eagles, ospreys, kingfishers, great blue herons, common terns, green herons and gulls, as well as wintering waterfowl. Murphy Hall, atop Horse Head Cliffs, offers a superb view of the Potomac River. The hall accommodates up to 72 people for meetings and other gatherings. Amenities include audiovisual equipment, a warming kitchen for catered events and an executive board room.
There’s limited cell phone service in the park. WiFi is available at the camp store.
