Where is Mr. Madison?
Can you guess where Mr. Madison is?
A few weeks ago, we were honored to host
James Madison
at Belle Grove Plantation!
James Madison was kind enough to visit his birthplace and to allow us to capture his visit!
John Douglas Hall, who is a Historical Performer, is very similar to James Madison in appearance and interest in politics and government, law, religious freedom, natural science and a host of other subjects. He can be seen at Montpelier and Gadsby’s Tavern and even on television! When you speak to him, you would swear that you were in fact talking to Mr. Madison himself!
Mr. Hall has a unique way of presenting James Madison. Instead of offering a historic view of Madison in the way current historians view him, he seeks to show Madison through original resources of Madison. Mr. Hall presents James Madison in the context of Madison’s own time with an extraordinary command of Madison’s situation, accrued experience and own sense and perspective of the day.
If you would like to find out more about John Douglas Hall, you can visit his website at
www.thejamesmadison.com
You can also see Mr. Madison speak on this YouTube link

In the above YouTube link, John Douglas Hall portrays President Madison at historic Gadsby’s Tavern in Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Hall discusses issues that eventually led to the War of 1812 as though it were March 27, 1811 rather than March 27, 2011.
We are excited to share that Mr. Madison will be a frequent visitor to Belle Grove Plantation and will be meeting the public in future events.

I have placed it on our personal and Belle Grove Facebook Pages too! I hope that will help you!
Please help if you can!
Interesting post. Historic actors like this man are wonderful for helping us understand the past. That’s why I love Colonial Williamsburg so much. 🙂 Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I do too! And to have him there at the birthplace made it so much more special!
wow interesting Post about madison…..
Thank you!
What great fun you all had. Was he short? I know JM was short. Dianne
Believe it or not, he is about the same height as James Madison. It was like having the man there himself!
that last picture is terrific.
Thank you! I think we are going to use it on the official website that will be launching soon!
Perfect!
🙂
To have him pop in occasionally at Belle Grove, it can’t get any better.
Thank you! We have to agree!
I think he should bring Dolley along next time!
You know, I think so too!
That last photograph says it all. It is very (dare I say it ) Williamsburg’ish. In fact I would not mind using that as my background on my laptop. Great photo!!!
Thank you! It was one of my favorites. I already have it as the background on my laptop too!
