Meet Elody.
This is not one of the reenactors, but a guest. Children can rent costumes and enjoy the life of a colonial child for the day!
This gentleman and I had a wonderful conversation about James Madison. He stated that his attended school with the young Madison. He also talked about how Madison was very shy and short. He stated that he was teased about his height. But he did say that Madison was a very smart man. He showed me a pamplet that Thomas Jefferson had written talking about the taxation of the colonies. He explained that at first he didn’t understand it, but when Madison explained it to him he had a better understanding.

Yes they do! I just loved the conversation. Now I want to go back after doing some more research and see what other topics we can discuss. You know we are going to have James and Dolley for dinner at Belle Grove to celebrate his birthday each year. I can’t wait to see what that will be like! I will really need to study!

Something I would like to do someday. The nephew of one of my 4th great-grandparents was a 49’er and I think it would be neat to have a period costume made and volunteer in a museum or for a living history day.
That would be so much fun! I am looking forward to having a day for others to join us at the plantation in period costumes too!
I think the actors playing residents of Williamsburg have added a lot to the experience. They didn’t have that when I first went as a child. And then last spring, when Mike and I were there, I realized for the first time they were renting costumes to visitors because we went through the Capital with a family of four in fully colonial dress. I just love, love, love Williamsburg. Thanks for the pictures!

Love it! We used to live just minutes from Colonial Williamsburg. I’m soooo craving those yummy Ginger Cake (cookies) from the Raleigh Tavern now!
Thank you! We love going there. I think I will miss it once I get to Belle Grove permanently. But Belle Grove will have some wonderful new memories for us to make!
I lived briefly in Norfolk while I was in elementary school and loved our field trips to Williamsburg. I hope someday to visit as an adult. Thanks for reading.

American Colonial Historical costumes from Williamsburg remind me of a visit I made to a similar historic town in Springfield and Boston, Massachusetts with my in-laws from Vermont in New England, USA.

It was so much fun seeing them and talking with them. I have to brush up on my colonial history of Williamsburg before I go next time!
My husband and I have been to Colonial Williamsburg and we both loved it. The discipline of youths at that time was quite interesting. Not for the faint of heart 😉 Joe, my husband, often says the stocks need to make a come back 🙂 for the children in today’s society. This place is rich with history and how people actually lived and worked during that time. I’m ready to go back once again 😀

We are with you on the love of Williamsburg! I have seen a few of todays parents walk away as their children were crying out from the stocks! 😉 Maybe a few had the same idea in mind.
We LOVED Williamsburg! We were there last year and stayed at the Williamsburg Lodge for several days. We visited many of the surrounding battlesites and had supper one evening at the King’s Arms Tavern.
We’d love to go back!
