As such, our permanent exhibit tells the history of African American education in Spotsylvania, while our rotating exhibits explore subjects that impact all county residents. A comparative historical approach allows us to show events through time – making them relevant to every visitor who comes through our doors. Our Mission is to celebrate Spotsylvania by collaborating with like-minded individuals and organizations to collect, archive, share and facilitate learning about the interactive history of education, culture and civic life of the county’s African American citizens. In so doing, we demonstrate how those interactions within the wider population contributed to the richness of Spotsylvania County’s development. - KENMORE PLANTATIONhttp://kenmore.org

Meadows Farms is world renown for its unique features, oversize bent grass greens and rolling scenic land. As you play through Civil War hospital landmarks, you will have an appreciation for this ex-dairy farmland. At the request of owner “Farmer” Bill Meadows, designer Bill Ward, Jr. has incorporated unique and exciting features, such as an island green, bounce bunkers, moguls, a baseball hole, and much more. All 28 holes (there is a warm up hole) are fun to play and are challenging for all skill levels. If the longest hole in the Unites States, a par 6, 841-yard monster isn’t reason enough to test your skill level, then try a waterfall hole, 60 feet tall, that you actually drive your cart underneath! A fully-stocked pro shop, driving range, putting green, snack shop, on-course beverage service, and lessons are available. Our new clubhouse is scheduled to open in summer of 2004. At Meadows Farms, we go out of our way “to treat every golfer like a pro.”Exit 130-B, 4300 Flat Run Rd., Locust Grove, (540) 854-9890.

What does the word Smyrna mean? Smyrna is an ancient city in Turkey where Ephesus is located. Legend has it that St. John brought the Virgin Mary to Ephesus after the crucifixion, where she spent her last days in a small stone house on what is now Bulbuldagi. It remains a popular pilgrimage site for Christians to this day. The owners of Smyrna Mediterranean Cuisine and Café are from Smyrna in Turkey. They have melded their Turkish and Greek backgrounds with the spirit of an all American mom-and-pop place.
Smyrna Mediterranean Cuisine and Café offers the traditional Mediterranean cooking in a home-style version as carry-out, eat in or large party orders. We use fresh ingredients and take pride in creating our sauces, dressings and soups in the old tradition… all from scratch. Mediterranean cuisine follows a diet that includes grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and olive oil. Mediterranean diet is not a strict diet; it is only a healthy eating pattern that has an appeal due to its rich and flavorful foods. We serve authentic “Turkish” and “Greek” meals and carry products such as olive oils, olives, pomegranate juice, pomegranate oil, hazelnut oil, Mediterranean beers and wines, yogurts, cheeses, labne, etc. (please see our product list). We bring you a wonderful assortment of dishes prepared from family recipes that have been pleasing palates for centuries!
Our Mediterranean cuisine is inexpensive with an innovative layout. On one side we offer imported grocery items, on the other side we have tables and a counter for on-site dining and carry out. Most of our specialty items can be viewed in our refrigerated cases. We offer many “vegetarian” and “vegan” dishes as well as large party orders for any occasion.
If you are looking for a tasty, healthy way to indulge, Smyrna Cuisine is a great choice for the exceptional “Mediterranean” tastes filled with health-conscious ingredients and regional Greek and Turkish specialties. - Tim’s II at Fairviewhttp://tims2.com/
